Early Lennon

John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940, in Liverpool England. There, he was raised by his aunt Mimi and Uncle George, with his mother Julia visiting occasionally. Liverpool at the time was a poorer area, meaning that a lot of people worked multiple jobs and didn't earn much, not to mention that World War II was going off full-swing.

Growing up this way had a huge impact on Lennon, and would easily come to influence his behavior as well as his subject matter in the songs he would later come to write.

During his high school days, Lennon spent a lot of his time dabbling in music, even starting his own band with some of his close friends, including Pete Shotton, named the Quarrymen (a name referencing the school they all attended called Quarry Bank). Shotton would eventually introduce Lennon to his mutual friend Paul McCartney, not knowing they would grow to create one of the most influential bands in all music history.
